8 Things To Do In Gilbert, Arizona With Kids

8 Things To Do In Gilbert, Arizona With Kids

My family loves visiting Arizona. You have the heat of Mexico with the comfortable amenities of home all in one location!

Not only is it hot in Arizona, it is relatively inexpensive to fly from Canada (if you just bring 1 or no checked bags).

For all 5 of us to fly, that would be 2 adult tickets and 2 child tickets and 1 infant on lap ticket, we could fly round trip for $1150 CAD. Compared to a family vacation to Pueto Rico which the flights would cost us $2300 CAD.

But in this blog post I’m not sharing why we love going to Arizona, I want to share what we did in Gilbert, Arizona during our last couple trips!

Fun Activities For Families To Do Around Gilbert, AZ

  1. Grab a coffee & tour Agritopia: I don’t know how to describe the Gilbert Agritopia other than it is such an unique community! And I wish we had known about the tours of the Gilbert Agritopia (they happen every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10:00am), but we still were able to appreciate the beauty of their Biblical Garden while sipping on our “monsoon slushes”. It’s a stunning place to grab a coffee and enjoy a nice walk with your children.
  2. Swimming: It may sound simple but if you can find an AirBnB or hotel with a pool your kids will be entertained all week. Fortunately, Matt’s parents have a vacation home in Arizona (our girls call it the “pool house”) and the pool is where our girls spend most of their day.
  3. Sports Game: Thankfully the Phoenix area has so many sport teams and games to watch – there is baseball, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball. There are so many options depending on your budget!
  4. Top Golf: I was hesitant about taking the girls to Top Golf the first time, but it ended up being an awesome time! We have nothing like Top Golf in Canada let alone Edmonton. It’s similar to a driving range but it’s a fun twist on whacking a ball. At the time Abigail was 1 year old and Annaliese was 3 years old, we had Abigail sit in the stroller the whole time and then Annaliese took a turn hitting the ball. TIP: Request the lowest level for peace of mind with younger kids.
  5. Outlet Malls: We loved walking around the outdoor Phoenix Premium Outlet mall or San Tan Village during the weekdays because it’s basically empty. The girls could walk around freely while Matt & I window shopped or stopped for a coffee.
  6. Indulge In Amazing American Fast Food: Let’s name off all the delicious restaurants that the US has and Canada does not – Chick Fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, Sonic’s Drive-Thru, P.F Changs, In-N-Out, Jack N’ The Box, White Castle. Sometimes I wish I lived closer to the border…
  7. Stock Pile BoSa Donuts Every Morning: I had never heard about BoSa Doughnuts and I don’t know if they are a Phoenix thing or an America thing, but they are beyond delicious! Our top picks are the apple fritters, plain old fashion, and glazed twist.
  8. Hiking in the Desert: Hiking in Arizona is completely different than hiking in Canada. But it’s an awesome unique experience! Our favourite trails close to Gilbert are in San Tan Mountain Region Park. There are trails for all levels of experience and difficulty.

What’s your favourite family vacation spot?

10 Reasons Childhood Friends Are The Best Friends

photos by Justine Milton.

I didn’t show photos from too far back because they might kill me. And truth be told, it’s pretty embarrassing for myself too.

10 Reasons Childhood Friends Are The Best Friends

There are 5 of us in our bff group – we’ve been bonded through awkward middle school haircuts and highschool all-nighters and bar hopping in the middle of winter and university exam chaos and newborn baby snuggles.

Even though we have all taken very different patches after graduation we’re each others biggest cheerleaders and therapists.

10 Reasons Childhood Friends Are The Best Friends:

  1. They let us rant about our day, everyday. They’ve seen you at my best and your worst. Just let it all hang out.

2. You’ve bonded over your twisted sense of humour and weirdness.

3. They call you out (in a loving way) when you’re being irrational.

4. You screen each other’s dates beforehand, like full on social media stalker him.

5. They remember all your embarrassing moments over the last 15 years.

6. Their parents are your parents, their house is your house.

7. Everyone already has dibs on future baby names, and you’d be mad to cross each other.

8. They’ve seen too much of you (by accident, of course), more than they ever wanted to see. **It grows exponentially once you have babies and start nursing and do not care who sees your body, especially your bffs.**

9. You get insanely jealous when they make new friends even though you know you could never be replaced.

10. You have no shame around them.

Hang on to your childhood friends!

They are an extra vault of memories, and those adolescent memories are priceless. Even though you may be in different or similar stages of life your bond over those memories make you inseparable.

Girl’s Road Trip To Calgary Recap | Travel Calgary, Alberta

Calgary, Alberta Tourism

I love travelling to near and far away places! Even with Calgary, Alberta being a 4 hour drive away it supplies a completely different atmosphere to Edmonton.

This past girl’s road trip to Calgary we took down the 2017 Ford F-150 Ranch King and the truck made the drive feel like we were flying down the highway. I especially loved the double sunroof and massage seats, and dare I mention the park assist… it truly does work!

I was hesitant on using it with such a large vehicle but as long as the parking space is long enough the truck does the parking for you, which is a blessing for me because parallel parking is not my forte!

During our stay at Hotel Elan in Calgary we had access to the most delicious restaurants downtown. The first night, we ate nachos and had Poodles (like Bulldogs, but a margarita with a mini bottle of CHAMPAGNE) at Blanco Cantina

The next night, we dined at Goro+Gun on 7th Avenue. Never have I ever had such delicious dynamite rolls – the food was a whole other level on both quality and quantity. You receive a large portion for the price, and I’m not complaining about taking half the portion home for a midnight snack.

Our final destination for food was 1410 Bier Haus for brunch after we grabbed a quick latte at Al Forno – we wanted to test out Calgary’s pub brunches. The menu was full of hearty breakfast items and we all chose different dishes. I chose the Breakfast Bowl, and the crispy potatoes and poached eggs hit the spot that morning. And their mimosa – pineapple or orange – were exactly what we needed to complete our bff brunch.

And I will never stop going to Rosso Coffee Roasters when I visit Calgary – their sweet lattes are officially my favourite. And their new Tuxedo location is so sleek, you have to check see it for yourself.

I can’t wait until our next girl’s trip and the adventures we’ll have then!

I cannot stop raving about the explosion of Edmonton’s patio scene this year – I feel like last year there was only the common spots like O2’s rooftop patio and Craft’s rooftop patio that were available for outdoor summer dining.

But there are only so many times you can switch back and forth between those two locations…

Through a friend I had excitedly heard that Central Social Hall was renovating their entire Jasper Avenue place (which looks fantastic by the way – the bathrooms are phenomenal with the giant flower walls and floor-to-ceiling mirrors) and opening a brand new patio.

It’s like they knew what a blogger‘s dream patio looked like! Those pink umbrellas stole my heart away the second I saw them.

The staggered landings help the layout feel open and not overcrowded with the tables. Even though you’re on Jasper Avenue your conversation is not drowned out by the street noise because you’re elevated off ground level.

I was so happy my Edmonton blogger gals could join me for my last hurrah before this baby arrives next month! We were treated to a tasting of their brunch and cocktail/mocktail menus – they recently revamped their entire Central Social Hall menu, and now are using the freshest and local ingredints in all their dishes.

The menu no longer offers frozen, ready to go pub food but now serves innovative, contemporary meals that are delicious! We tried:

The Ultimate Girls Calgary Weekend | Hotel Elan | Downtown Calgary

Hotel Elan Is Calgary’s Modern Hotspot Hotel

This past weekend was my road trip to Calgary with my long time best friends and this weekend getaway we stayed at Hotel Elan – 1122 16 Ave SW.

It is the ideal location just off 17th Avenue where all the stunning restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques are.

The front desk staff at Hotel Elan were super efficient, relatable, and friendly. We had no idea how to get into the underground parkade and felt silly when we arrived in our 2017 Ford F150, and they kindly explained how to and that our truck would fit into their parkade.

We stayed in a breathtaking Two Bedroom Serenity Suite – it felt like it was nearly as big as my apartment! The two separate bedrooms each had a fluffy king size bed, ironing board and iron, iHome, flat screen T.V, safe, closet, and mirror.

The bathroom was exquisite. From the heated toilet seat (which makes me chuckle because it was surprisingly comforting), to the life changing shower and the giant tub, to the complimentary L’Occitane products – the bathroom had everything you wanted from a boutique hotel and more.

In the living common area there was a flat screen T.V, meeting desk that seats 6, chaise sofa and modern chairs, private balcony, and Euro style kitchen. I was amazed that the kitchen was stocked with cups, mugs, wine glasses, mini fridge, gourmet pots, Keurig brewer, stovetop burners, and microwave. It had literally anything and everything you needed.

There were lots of laughs this weekend but in the end I was the butt of the joke (besides my friend starting to order her food when the waiter was not there to take it) when I tried to get out on to the balcony. My friends had been effortlessly in and out but when it came to me opening the balcony door I could not figure out what I was doing wrong! After my friends watched my (humorous) tiring struggle to figure it out they informed me I was simply turning it the wrong way.

It was worth the struggle because our south facing balcony received the warm morning sun making it perfect to drink coffee and watch people enjoying their morning walks.

And I can’t forget to mention the delicious breakfasts served every morning – everyday had fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt, granola, cereal, eggs, hashbrowns, toast, pancakes, juice, and a coffee station. They also have featured items like on our first morning it was quiche, bacon, and crab cakes. The second morning had french toast, ham, amd sausage. We were so well fed, it started our days off just right.

So if you’re planning your next visit to Calgary Hotel Elan should be the top of your list of places to stay! I can’t wait for our next girl’s trip, as this one is going to be hard to beat!

Arizona Adventures | Spring Maternity Style | Pink Blush Giveaway

maternity maxi dress summer spring maternity stylematernity maxi dress summertassel maxi maternity dressSantan Village, Arizona mom holding baby

Like I said before on Instagram, it feels like this pregnancy has flown by as I am already 22 weeks pregnant! Right now we are scoping out names like crazy because Matt and I can hardly find one name we both like.

Our (but really it’s MY) name qualification checklist is long but we’ll keep looking at baby name lists until we find a couple names we can agree one. I love names that start with vowels, that are long-ish, and unique but traditional names, plus if it’s biblical that’s a bigger bonus.. The kicker is finding a biblical name that is unique but not bizarre (like Nebuchadnezzar or Tirzah)… but I like also Grace as a possibility for a girl but Matt does not like “word names”. See what I mean? We have a lot more baby research ahead of us!

But for now let’s head into this next G I V E A W A Y! I’ve partnered with Pink Blush to giveaway a $50 gift certificate! I’ve been wearing all my Pink Blushes dresses this week (here, here, and here) to update my Spring maternity style, and I know you’ll find something you love from there!
