How I Am Preparing For Cold And Flu Season!

I am going to share with you how I am preparing for the cold and flu season this year! Cold and flu season is my least favourite time of year – it’s one thing when I need to nurture my family back to health from a cold or flu, but it’s a completely different experience when I am the one who is sick.

My goal is to get back to health or at least feeling a bit more like myself in the quickest way with Vicks and Braun, available at London Drugs.

When does cold and flu season start in Canada? Hannah, from the popular Canadian motherhood blog at Honey & Betts, shares how she is preparing for cold and flu season! Humidity, accurate temperature readings, and proper hydration is key! Check out the difference between cold and flu!

The first way I am preparing for cold and flu season is by restoring the humidity in our home with the Vicks® FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier!

I have been running our Vicks® FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier (available at London Drugs) all day and night to improve the moisture in our house. Our family lives in the prairies and the air is very dry – which is particularly unfortunate in the winter months when the humidity levels are already low.

Also, I am prone to having bouts of severe sore and dry throats, and spontaneous nosebleeds in the wintertime. Lucky me! I’m constantly on high alert when I suddenly get a very runny nose, I almost always assume it’s a nosebleed! Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t, but I’m always vigilant (especially with my white duvet!).

Routinely using a humidifier helps fight against:
  • viruses
  • dry skin
  • nosebleeds
  • stuffy nose
  • sore throat

I enjoy the Vicks® FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier because: it’s easy to use mist control makes adjust the humidity simple, it has a large tank opening for refilling, there are no extra parts (like a filter) to keep track or purchase, it is incredibly quiet so it does not disturb my light sleep, and the cool mist provides temporary relief for congestion and coughing.

When I need that extra kick of relief I add the Vicks® VapoPads – the pads are added to the humidifier and they release soothing vapours. The pads are available in Menthol and Rosemary and Lavender scents.

Secondly, I am preparing for cold and flu season by taking my temperature and my children’s temperatures with the accurate Braun ThermoScan®7 Thermometer.

The first thermometer I purchased as a new mom was a Braun thermometer, and it served us for 7 years! Now, I am pleased to update our medicine cupboard with the new Braun ThermoScan®7 Thermometer. Braun thermometers are the number one brand used by pediatricians among pediatricians who recommend a type of thermometer and is the most trusted children’s thermometer brand by Canadian shoppers

The tip of the thermometer pre-warms to 34 degrees Celsius for the most accurate reading and added comfort. Braun has continued making easy and gentle to use thermometers that help even the most nervous parents take an accurate temperature of their baby.

Did you know that a normal temperature in a toddler could be a fever for a newborn? Parenting is a whirlwind of learning about these differences, and Braun has developed Braun Age Precision™ Technology to make parenting easier.

Here are the steps to taking a temperature with Braun Age Precision™ Technology:
  1. Set your child’s age with the Age Precision™ button: 0-3 months, 3-36 months, 36+ months.
  2. Take the temperature through the ear.
  3. The colour-coded temperature reading will indicate to you the meaning of the temperature reading. Green means their temperature is normal, yellow means fever, red means high fever.

I appreciate the small details in the Braun ThermoScan®7 Thermometer like the built-in nightlight for taking care of your kids in the middle of the night, and the thermometer’s memory that tracks the previous temperature for easy comparison. These features make such a difference when taking care of your family or of yourself!

I am invariably about sharing the best and most helpful products, and I hope you add this humidifier and thermometer to your home. In my opinion, you can never be too early to prepare for cold and flu season!

I encourage you to read more about the Vicks® FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier and Braun ThermoScan®7 Thermometer at their website!
