Like I mentioned in my Instagram post while I visited Halifax, Nova Scotia in the fall – it is gorgeous in Nova Scotia! The maple trees have all their leaves and their vibrant fall colour are breath taking!
And now I have made a huge travel goal, over the next few years I am going to travel to all the provinces and territories in Canada with my 4 kids and husband. Canada is a vast country of different traditions and landscapes, I want to be able to appreciate each one and make memories with my family.
If you need a refresher of all the Canadian provinces and territories: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland And Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

When my mom and I arrived at the Halifax airport after our red-eye West Jet flight and checked into our car rental, the desk clerk highly recommended Cape Breton if we had a chance for a mini road trip. While we didn’t get the opportunity for the 4 hour road trip from Halifax to Cape Breton (which is one of the top trails in the world to see), we opted for the 45 minute drive to Peggy’s Cove.
The highway drive and when we turned off the highway, the scenery is completely different from Alberta. Which makes sense but it was mind-boggling too!
The roads are twisty and curvy to accommodate inland lakes and shore of the ocean, if you get motion sickness easily prepare yourself. The rocky terrain is covered with thick red bushes that grow a couple of feet high. There are gorgeous bays and lakes along the way with lovely houses along the water, with their own boats and docks. And now and then you see a mini island with a mini lighthouses.
We had to keep reminding ourselves that those mini lighthouses are legitimate and meant for safety, not just to look cute. But trust me, they looked super cute!
Once we arrived at Peggy’s Cove the surroundings were straight out of a picture – the brightly coloured homes scattered between the rock and the closed summer season shops.
The visitor area was deserted, just the way I like it! My friend had been to Peggy’s Cove in August and she said there were people everywhere. You couldn’t get a photo by yourself even if you wanted to – but our timing in late October had the lighthouse all to ourselves!
So if you’re like me and are looking for the perfect place to visit Halifax, Nova Scotia in the fall/off-season – Peggy’s Cove needs to be at the top of your list!
Plot twist to our visit!
While I was there, my mom told me that she remembers watching the news in 1998 about the mortifying plane crash that happened 5 miles off the coast of Peggy’s cove. Go research it, it is super sad and devastating! So when you are there, sit in remembrance of the lives that were lost that day and the families that mourned.
