Dairy & Egg Free Cinnamon Rolls

Delicious, fluffy cinnamon rolls without eggs or dairy.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp rapid-rise yeast
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp coconut palm sugar

Instructions

  • In a bowl in the microwave at 30 second increments, heat the almond milk and 3 Tbsp coconut oil until warm and melted .
  • Transfer mix to a large mixing bowl and sprinkle on yeast. Let activate for 10 minutes.
  • Add 1 Tbsp sugar and the salt and stir.
  • Add in flour 1/2 cup at a time, stirring as you go (you may not add it all). The dough will be sticky and too thick to stir.
  • Transfer to a lightly greased bowl (a bit of coconut oil works perfectly). Cover with a towel and set in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin rectangle. Brush with 3 Tbsp melted coconut oil and top with 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 - 1 Tbsp cinnamon.
  • Tightly roll up the dough.
  • Then with a serrated knife or a string of floss, cut the dough into 1.5 - 2 inch sections and put into a pan.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and let the dough rise in the pan while oven is preheating.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until slightly golden brown.
  • Let cool for a few minutes and then serve immediately.

For this easy mouse makeup I created a darker eye makeup look, drew on a black nose and whiskers with my eye shadow palette. Then created a dual colour lip with a red on top and a pink on the bottom.

Bada-bing-bada-boom! Makeup is done.

I made “space buns” for mouse ears, I applied dry shampoo to my hair and then parted my hair down the middle.

I want my hair to stay in place and not need fussing over, so I applied mousse to each side and twisted my hair into two buns on top of my head. If you want extra hold, apply mousse directly to each bun once they are where you want them to stay.

That’s it, it’s so simple even I could do it!

5 Easy Steps To The Perfect Top Knot

Top knot buns are my thing! It’s my version of “mom hair”. I’ve worn my hair in a top knot for at least 6 years so I like to think my 5 steps to the perfect top knot are flawless!

Hannah, from the popular Edmonton blog Honey & Betts, takes you through a tutorial on her coveted top knot. Her simple 5 steps to the perfect top knot is worth the read!

Some days my hair is so matted from wearing the same top knot for 3 days in a row, I vow never to wear a bun after combing the knots out. You know the feeling when the crown of your head is sore from having your hair tightly kept in the same place for too long? It feels so good to let it down but at the same time it hurts. You know the feeling!

But I still go on my bun binges so I don’t really mind.

The secret to a beautiful top knot for fine hair and coarse hair is using 3-4 elastics. I have heavy, course, thick hair so without the multiple elastics my buns fall out-of-place.

Here are 5 steps to the perfect top knot:

  1. Pull your hair up into a high ponytail.
  2. Divide your ponytail into 2 sections.
  3. Tie a knot with the two sections of hair.
  4. Tuck both loose ends of the knot under your bun, secure with 2 (or more) elastics.

If I want my bun to be extra secured I use bobby pins, and if you have heavy or thick hair I highly recommended this curly bobby pin.

I just discovered these amazing elastics that claim to eliminate the need for bobby pins, so I’ll keep you up to date when they arrive and if they do what they say!

Baby Care: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat Review

This Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat review blog post is in sponsored by Chicco Canada. All opinions are 100% my own.

Car seats aren’t made how they used to be – people say that all the time when they see my baby (Adeline) in her Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat! Car seats used to be the bare minimum in safety, thankfully that has completed changed!

You can see the Chicco car seat is made to protect her. The thickly-padded newborn insert gives her extra head support and neck support, because little infant necks are not the strongest! The car seat shell is lined with energy absorbing foam, and one-pull harness makes tightening and loosening quick and easy.

Trust me, you want to find a car seat with easy straps and buckles because it is the most frustrating thing when you’re wrestling car seat straps!

She is snug as a bug when strapped in!

Why do I love the Chicco KeyFit 30 infant car seat?

Overall it’s a superb infant car seat! The Chicco KeyFit 30 car seat has since grown with my newborn to her being 12 months old, and has lots of room to continue to be rear-facing.

The car seat shell and car seat straps are easy to clean, so if your baby spits up a lot you can conveniently clean your car seat!

Many new parents and grandparents do not know how to properly instal a baby into a car seat, which makes perfect sense if you’ve never needed to do it or if you haven’t done it in along time!

When your baby is installed in their car seat, ask yourself:

  • is the chest clip properly closed and is it at arm pit/nipple height?
  • is the harness tight on your baby?
  • are the harness straps just at or below your baby’s shoulders?

The number one concern for babies in car seats is that the harness is not tight enough – often you hear someone say that looks too tight on them, but a tight harness will save your baby’s life.

To check the tightness attempt to pinch the webbing of the harness with the thumb and forefinger. If you are unable to pinch the harness, then it is sufficiently tight.

Some of the reasons we chose the Chicco KeyFit 30 Car Seat:

  • accommodates babies 4 lbs to 30 lbs to sit rear-facing (Woah! I don’t think Abigail, my 2 year old, weighs 30 lbs yet…).
  • easily installed into your car – the first car seat we ever owned has us inspecting the installation process of every future potential car seat. If it’s not easy to instal and uninstall it’s not for us, we like to keep our cool when installing car seats.
  • neutral colour choice – it’s chic, easy to clean, and gender neutral.
You can find the Chicco KeyFit 30 Car Seat at Toys R Us.

Beautycounter Canada Consultant | The Pressure To Join The Safer Beauty Movement Proves Beautycounter Is Like Any Other MLM

**UPDATE** As a former Beautycounter Canada Consultant, you should read my latest blog post: Why I Don’t Sell Beautycounter Anymore!

Being a Beautycounter Canada Consultant has it's pros and cons. Is Beautycounter a MLM? Will you annoy your family and friends into socials? Yes.

Being a Beautycounter Canada Consultant has it's pros and cons. Is Beautycounter a MLM? Will you annoy your family and friends into socials? Yes.

I’m excited for the work I’m doing with my Beautycounter team and with my mentors (but really they’re my #bossbabe friends that happen to also be bloggers).

Recently Dallas and Tara came up and did a “Safer Beauty, Move Your Booty” event in Edmonton and it was a blast – so of course we had to meet up at one of my favourite coffee places in Edmonton prior to the event.

I love it whenever I get the chance to sit down with them – we set goals, there’s lots of laughter, but best of all I learn things about building my business.

We’re building a Beautycounter Babe Tribe and I’m over the moon excited being one of the women in Alberta, let alone Edmonton who are at the core of spreading the awesome news of safer beauty. Read more here about why you should try Beautycounter.

Not only do my Beautycounter Babes amaze me but the new products that launched this summer are just as wonderful!

One of my best clients has a sunscreen allergy to every sunscreen she has ever tried, nothing works for her without giving her a rash. After we discussed Beautycounter’s 60 day return policy, she took a chance on the Beautycounter Sunscreen Protection Stick and she was pleased to report back to me that it didn’t give her a rash! How awesome is that!

It was a wonderful moment for me as a promoter of Beautycounter because she trusted in me to invest in her skincare and trusted that if it did not work for her that I would deliver on helping her find the best safer beauty products for her.

Beautycounter is about growing relationships and being transparent. And those are a few reasons I had to jump in (and to be honest, I wish I jumped in a year before I formally joined as a consultant).

If there’s a piece of you interested or curious on joining my Beautycounter Babe Tribe, I highly encourage you to take that leap – it’s only $85 to enroll – whether you’re near or far the Beautycounter tribe expands from Canada to the United States.

Take the leap and join this safer beauty movement! You can make your dreams happen.

If you have read this far down after my update, check out my The Best Skincare For Dry And Aging Skin post before you go!

Hannah, from the popular Edmonton lifestyle and beauty blog Honey & Betts, is sharing why she quit Beautycounter and what it's really like to be a Beautycounter Consultant in Canada. The controversy, the complaints, the whisking everything under the rug. Unfortunately, Beautycounter is just like any other MLM company.

How I Prepare For Taking Outfit Photos | Quaker State At Canadian Tire

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CanadianTire #QuakerState #CollectiveBias

What to bring to a lifestyle photoshoot?

As a lifestyle blogger, I am always on the lookout for places that would be perfect for taking photos. It’s a blessing and a curse!

One of the most iconic Alberta scenic views are the summer fields blanketed in canola - and at the end of July when the canola bloom into their yellow flowers.

To get to these picturesque fields is a bit of a hike from our downtown home and we would be so disappointed if our vehicle could not make it there or back… so, when we’re preparing to take photos there’s a checklist of things to do to make our journey worth it.

A mandatory pit stop at Canadian Tire is a must. They have a wide variety of car parts and products, but also so much for helping us enjoy the end of summer! I personally love walking the baking aisles analyzing the cake pans and muffin trays, but I’ll save my baking products for fall when it’s not too hot out to use the oven.

How To Prepare For Taking Outfit Photos

The rest of my mini road trip checklist includes:

Water bottles and dry snacks – whether it’s hot or cold out, staying hydrated and full will make your shoot more enjoyable. There’s nothing worse than dry mouth and a growling stomach when you’re in the heat and are starting to look miserable in photos! Plus, you would not want any stains on your clothes so keep that in mind when choosing a snack.

Makeup bag – I’m human, if you didn’t already know, and I am not impervious to sweating. When it’s hot or I’m stressed, I sweat. Though typically I don’t use flash in any of my photography looking shiny is not a flattering look for me. To fix any shininess or smudges on the go I bring my translucent powder, waterproof mascara, lipstick, cotton pads, and q tips.

Fully charged camera battery and memory card – Thankfully, the new camera I have now I do not need to remove the memory card to transfer photo files anymore but believe me from experience how much it sucks when you arrive at your photo destination and have no memory card! Same goes for a well charged camera battery – there’s no way to fix the situation. So learn from my mistakes!

Check the tire pressure – imagine something going wrong with your vehicle on the way, during, or on the way home while you’re in the middle of nowhere. That is not a fun place to be dealing with wheel troubles! It’s better to take the extra steps – look in your owner’s manual to check the correct tire pressure, then use Google to learn how to measure the pressure and fill if needed.

Check the oil – While you’re checking your owners manual, look for what kind of oil your car needs. I’m all about learning from other’s mistakes to avoid making the same mistakes ourselves – a few months ago a family member’s engine nearly blew when making a short 2 hour road trip to visit. The car trouble? The oil had not been checked and filled since a long time ago! I’m not judging because I am the most guilty of never checking the oil in our vehicles. It’s crazy to think that something as simple as checking your vehicle’s oil will save you so much money, time, and grief!

Do yourself a favour and purchase Quaker State® Ultimate Durabilityâ„¢ Full Synthetic Motor Oil from your local Canadian Tire – car maintenance being made for life in Canada.

Once these tasks from my checklist are complete I have peace of mind that we’ll have a smooth photo session.

How do you prepare for mini road trips with your car?

There are even cuter ways to send printed party invitations now, using Basic Invite you can make any invitation custom to what you want!

As soon as Adeline was born I was planning out her birth announcements – I’ve stuck to sending out snail mail announcements and invites since that’s what I grew up with. I love the nostalgic memories of seeing my family’s fridge covered in announcements and party invites.

Once you select a design you can change the elements of the card to one of 180 different colours available. The card will be exactly what you want it to be!

Fall, Where You At? | High Waist Jeans For Loving Your Post Partum Body

Loving Your Post Partum Body: How To Dress In The 4th Trimester

My body has gone through MANY changes over the past few weeks, and I love it for those amazing changes. Where my stomach used to be hard and tight from a little baby growing inside me – it is now squishy and tender and healing from the lack of child inside.

After my first was born I didn’t know I would need to wear my maternity clothes for at least a couple of months afterward… so when I tried a looser pair of jeans and they didn’t fit I was more than upset! But it was a good first lesson on loving my body, the clothes on my body did not matter.

No one else could tell or cared if I wore a nursing top and maternity pants. I was the ONLY one who knew, and my pride was eating away at being a new mom. So give yourself a break, take a breath, and love your body for the little miracle you produced! You’re a beautiful mama!

P.S. I have a feeling I didn’t share this last time I gave birth, but I like to bring a belly binder to the hospital with me to help my muscles and internal organs settle into their normal place. It amazes me how far your abdominal muscles stretch to accommodate the new baby inside!
