First, I refresh my hair with the Herbal Essences dry shampoo – spraying my roots throughout. The best part? No white powdery mess that you need to work into your hair and scalp! You can see proof in the video. Plus it’s paraben & gluten free. *thumbs up*

Then I use my Nume 25 mm curling rod and alternate the direction of how I wrap my hair around the rod on either side, it creates a more natural curl effect.

For those who have difficulty curling their hair or the curl falling out half way through the day, try to hold the curl up to your head for 10 seconds to cool each strand before you move on to the next.

Then when you’ve curled all your hair apply the Beautycounter Sea Salt Mist (but click here to find out why I don’t sell Beautycounter anymore…) that is infused with Himalayan pink salt, red algae extract, and clay, it creates beachy waves.

And that is it! That’s all there is to it.

Why We Don’t Send Letters To Santa

Raising Children To Believe In Jesus

photos by Bespoke Photography | gingerbread by The Art Of Cake | wreath by Flowers By Willows

Here is some shocking news: Matt and I don’t do the whole Santa Claus thing with our daughters.

Sure, they know about Santa through the multiple times we’ve listened to Michael Buble’s Christmas album but we don’t centre Christmas around Santa.

Because for our family Christmas is about Jesus Christ and his birth.

Honestly, I was unsure how I would be teaching my children why we celebrate Christmas because I was raised believing in Santa and came to know Jesus as my personal saviour when I was a teenager. So, there was a period of time between when I knew Santa didn’t exist to when I understood the true meaning of Christmas.

But thankfully my 3 year old has been asking me to tell her the Christmas story like a broken record so it’s made me brush up on the details of Jesus’ birth. So what do I share with her?

It goes something like this:

A long time ago there was a man and lady named Mary and Joseph. They loved each other very much and were going to get married. Then one night an angel came to Mary in a dream and told her that she had been chosen for a very special job. She would become pregnant and give birth to a boy named Jesus, God’s son, who would be the king of all kings. An angel also went to Joseph and told him to marry Mary, even though she was pregnant, because the baby was the Son of God. So Mary and Joseph got married.

When Jesus was almost ready to be born, Mary and Joseph had to travel back to Joseph’s hometown Bethlehem to be counted by the government. But when they got to the town there was no room for them to stay in the inn. So they had to stay in a stable with the animals, and that’s where Mary gave birth to Jesus. She wrapped him in cloth and laid him in a manger.

People came to visit Jesus and worship him. Three wise men had followed a star all the way to Bethlehem and found Jesus. They brought presents of gold, frankincense and myrrh. There were also shepherds who found Jesus, thanks to an angel telling them that a new King was being born in Bethlehem.

And that is the Christmas story – of course there are more details into King Herod and the shepherds with the angels but this is the story we tell our 3 year old when she asks. It’s the truth of Jesus’ birth and the reason for the season!

Hope you all enjoy your Christmas Eve Eve! If you have more questions on what we believe as a family, you can find our beliefs here.

I’m not a baker. It’s too much of a science and you need to be exact with the measurements and that’s not me.

Chocolate Covered Oreos

A delicious and beautiful holiday cookie for those moms who want Pinterest worthy cookies without the hassell of baking.

Ingredients

  • Oreos
  • White and Dark Chocolate Candy Melts
  • Parchment Paper
  • Red and Green Sprinkles
  • Cupcake Wrappers

Instructions

  • Place the white chocolate candy melts in a microwaveable bowl and the dark chocolate candy melts in a separate microwaveable bowl.
  • Melt in 30 seconds increments and mixing in between until all the chips melted.
  • Dip half of the box of Oreos in the white chocolate melts and the other half in the dark chocolate melts.
  • Allow the excess chocolate to drip off before placing on the parchment paper.

Holiday Activities & Events In Edmonton

A Winter city is what Edmonton is! As Edmontonians we face climate challenges, like long winters, that most people will never have to.

But thankfully Edmonton embraces the cold and there is still plenty to do!

Ice Castles | This will be their second year in a row coming to Edmonton, and if you missed it last year you MUST go this year. Ice Castles are on from December 30, 2016 – March 15, 2017.

Alberta Legislature Grounds | Bundle up in your warmest gear and take a nighttime stroll through the gorgeously decorated Leg grounds. It seems like every tree is adorned with lights. It is a beautiful sight!

Art Gallery of Alberta | Looking for an activity to do inside? The AGA is constantly changing their exhibits, so check out their website for the last galleries and take a walk through the innovative building.

Candy Cane Lane | Join the Edmonton tradition of Candy Cane Lane – a spectacular lights display. It goes on from December 9, 2016 – January 1, 2017.

Reel Family Cinema at Metro Cinema | They will be showing: The Polar Express December 17th at 2 PM, Labyrinth December 26th at 2 PM, The Wizard Of Oz December 31st at 2 PM.

Calligraphy Workshop For Beginners | Many of you saw my Instastory where I attended Little Black Letter Company‘s calligraphy workshop – it was a blast! It was held at Little Brick cafe and it was the perfect winter setting. Though it was her last workshop of this year (she’s pregnant and due in February), I highly recommend attending one of her workshops in the new year.

Social Made Co. Workshops | The Social Made Co. workshops are ever changing, you never know what you’ll be making or when it will be until you receive the details if you’re on their email list. It’s like a secret society! Though from their social media they seem to have a really fun time!

Best Holiday Hairstyle

braids

Braids are my jam for two reasons: they’re on trend and they keep your hair out of your face. How did I complete this side dutch braid look?

Step One | Put in hair extensions, if you desire a thicker and longer braid.

Step Two | Part your hair and curl the ends. I like to hold the curl together for 10 seconds after my hair curls on my Nu.me 25cm wand so it holds it’s form longer throughout the day.

Step Three | The dry winter air makes my hair super frizzy so I apply a bit of defrizzing product to my ends.

Step Four | Smooth one side of your hair over the other shoulder so all your hair is on one side. Then take the beginning hair strands of your dutch braid and tease them for extra volume on top.

Step Five | If you have never done a dutch braid, you can find further instructions here. After you’ve braided your hair all the way down, secure it with an elastic, then wrap a strand of hair around the elastic and pin it into the braid with a bobby pin.

Step Six | Then give your hair a healthy dose of hairspray! Good old hairspray…

Last Minute Gifts + Stocking Stuffers Guide

There is something for everyone on this gift ideas list! Every year in the bustle of Christmas parties, concerts, and dinners my mind slips up on a few ladies on my Christmas gift list. Thankfully, finding them last minute gifts that they’ll love is easier than you’d think.

Whatever your budget is you can find something for her this Christmas – from home decor, to fashion, to beauty, to fitness, to food!

Hannah, the popular Edmonton Lifestyle blogger for the Canadian blog Honey & Betts, shares amazing gift and stocking stuffer ideas for last minute presents and shopping! Check out her list of home decor, clothes, jewelry, food, fitness, and beauty products that will give that jaw dropping expression on Christmas day!

The older I get, the more I realize I have on and off years for my preparedness for Christmas. One year I will have all my Christmas cards sent out by the first week of December, and then other years Christmas will completely sneak up on me and I’m scouring my local malls for the perfect gifts a few days before Christmas. I have absolutely no consistency!

I am a perfectionist where I want to get the perfect gift for Secret Santa or the best stocking stuffers for my husband. The pressure of finding a present that they will really like is hard. And I often have to remind myself that gifts are not the reason for the season. Christmas is so much more!

Thanks for stopping by and finding inspiration from these last minute gifts and stocking stuffers!
